is a middle class district which, with regard to the quality of life ranks between Lima´s top districts. In some areas the old colonial-style homes are replaced by high-rise buildings (like ours
), but in most parts of the district you will still find smaller condominiums or two-story homes - some of them really well maintained and of various bright colors. By that Jesús María still manages to keep a little bit of a suburb flair. But it is a very lively neighborhood, in its heart you will find a comercial zone with all kind of shops, supermarkets and a still functioning local market where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables and as well get a freshly prepared "ceviche" (national fish dish) or other food - all at still normal prices. And if you forget to buy something - no problem - the next "bodega" (small shop) won´t be far away.

You can get fresh fruits and vegetables on the local market |
Jesús María is very centrally located and well conected to all parts of the city. You will always find buses of all sizes going anywhere in the city within a few blocks (see map for some main bus stops nearby). The central station of the "Metropolitano" (fast bus line, contecting the north of Lima with its south) is within walking distance from our home and various terminals of buscompanies going to the provinces (Cuzco, Arequipa, Thumbes, Mancora ...) are just a very short taxi ride away (assumed that you will need a taxi because of your luggage).

Some of Limas more than 400 buslines |
In Jesús María you will also find one of Limas biggest recreaction areas: The Campo de Marte (literally on our doorsteps). The park is a good place for sports, to read a book or just relax. Apart from swimming facilities, tennis courts and a football field it contains two monuments of importance: A war memorial (war between Peru - Equador 1942) and "El ojo que llorar" a monument for the victims of the Fujimori dictate.
Another nice place to relax is the "Parque de la Reserva" with its "Circuito Mágico del Agua" (Magic Water Tour). The entrance fee is only 4 S/. It´s still not very known by tourists and for that more a peruvian family event. But the best time to go is in the night ... definitely a must see!!
